Malka Older

  • Kinokuniya New York 1073 Avenue of the Americas New York, NY 10018 (map)

Sequel to ‘Infomocracy’: A chillingly relevant exploration of how the flow of information can influence public opinion in a future alternate reality that you may have to remind yourself is just fiction…

Malka will read from and sign her newest book, and discuss the blend of science fiction technology and real world influences from her humanitarian work abroad that she used to create the high stakes political world of her Centenal Cycle series. She'll talk about the ways information can be manipulated, the possibility and pitfalls of new democratic models, and what happens on the margins of global systems like the one portrayed in her novels. Older will also be donating a percentage of the proceeds from Null States to the Institute for Statelessness and Inclusion

MALKA OLDER is a writer, humanitarian worker, and PhD candidate at the Centre de Sociologie des Organisations studying governance and disasters. Named Senior Fellow for Technology and Risk at the Carnegie Council for Ethics in International Affairs for 2015, she has more than eight years of experience in humanitarian aid and development, and has responded to complex emergencies and natural disasters in Uganda, Darfur, Indonesia, Japan, and Mali. Infomocracy is her first novel.
