Ai Haruna, and authors of a photobook, Edges of the Rainbow, Photographer Michel Delsol and Journalist Haruku Shinozaki visited our New York store in November, 2017.
Michel Del Sol and Haruku Shinozaki (joined at the beginning by moderator, Yusei Kageyama) presented their new publication on LGBTQ life in Japan in ‘Edges of the Rainbow’ at Kinokuniya New York on Saturday. Michel’s photographs and Haruku’s prose introduced a world that is often hidden yet at times flamboyantly open but still encounters challenges to gain wider acceptance in Japanese society.
During the presentation, we were extremely lucky to have had a special appearance by a subject featured in the book, Ai Haruna. She joined us right after a performance she’d held at Madison Square Garden. This gracious act by her is testimony to the heart and soul that Haruku and Michel have put into this project and the support they have received.
That support includes a generous donation from the Arcus Foundation, allows the price, which under regular circumstances would retail for $45.00 or more, to be a very reasonable $21.95 This wonderful book is something that shouldn’t be missed.
