Progress on our Portland Downtown Location

We are delighted to announce that our new store is opening in downtown Portland, Oregon in the summer of 2019.

Portland is the largest city in Oregon and is known as one of the most environmentally friendly and livable cities in the United States. As a city with a unique lifestyle that respects cultural diversity and explores curiosity, Portland is the perfect location to be opening our 13th store!

The new downtown Portland store is in a historic cinema building called the Guild Theatre which after almost 80 years in use closed in 2006. Kinokuniya is working diligently to renovate it, and we have striven to insure that the exterior of the building will maintain its elegant appearance.

The new store features a 1st floor cafe called “Book of Tea Café”.* This cafe is a collaboration with a beloved local Japanese cafe called “Behind the Museum Café” which opened in December 2011. This new cafe is the ideal spot to come and relax while drinking authentic Japanese tea and eating homemade Japanese sweets.

The new store carries carefully selected books, unique merchandise and Japanese stationery, with a focus on art and comics from Japan! We hope to entertain the Portland community!
