Heller presents students, academics, researchers, and general-interest readers with an examination of the cover art and design work that Edward Gorey produced on behalf of New York City publishers in the early years of his career. The main body of the text is organized around the collection of reproductions of the artists book covers, intercutting the Steven Hellers essay on Goreys work with examples at first and then yielding to page after page of full color reproductions.
