Hill (urban education, Temple U.) and Vasuvedan (technology and education, Columbia U.) present seven chapters exploring differing case studies on topics in media engagement in education. An essay opens each chapter and is followed by one-page responses from two different scholars offering additional insights and, in certain cases, critique. Essays discuss the following topics: photography as a social practice, the social functions of reading in the life of an African American urban adolescent, influencing pedagogy through the creative practices of youth, adolescent girls as multiliteracy pedagogues, situating the personal in digital media production, and digital storytelling experiences of three African American girls.
